Products for men to use to keep hair more straight and less puffy?

I'm trying to grow my hair out long (not girl long but shaggy yet well kept), but have curly hair and this can sometimes make my hair too thick and puffy. What products can I use to allow my hair to look better longer instead of having a ';too much hair'; look?
